Help With An Energy Switch Debacle

As PFP recently went into administration, we were moved over to British Gas. This wasn't something we had any control over but understand such scenarios mean a new provider has to be named. Following the announcement, I then signed up with Octopus but was then told that according to industry terms, this is considered a "switch" and therefore I cannot select my own energy supplier for another 28 days.
With so many providers going under I wondered if others have encountered this and if anyone knows a way around it.

The industry cannot cope with two ongoing transfers at the same time. There are a raft of procedures that take place behind the scenes ranging from wholesaler settlements to the updating of National databases. The sole sim of the SoLR process is to ensure continuity of supply. The alternative is that the customers of the failed suppliers have their power turned off until the switch to your chosen supplier has gone through. The advice that Ofgem gives in these circumstances is sound. Even if your transfer does go ahead, the SoLR will want to bill you from the date that it was appointed until your transfer goes through.
The SoLR tariff will also be at the Cap level or less. The SoLR will also have access to PfP’s systems and it is then able to transfer any credit.

@digitalvibe Just be patient let the SoLR process from PFP tp BG settle down - get the BG opened and then consider your options.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
