EDF Can they do that?

They told me that i needed to change my tariff or else be put on to a default one.  Today I chose the standard variable (approx 145) over the fixed 3 year (approx 200+).  When i got to the end it prompted a message saying 'We couldn't set up your new tariff - one of our advisors will have to help set up' - Contact us.  Tried online chat and that was down, so sent them a text.  When I went back in to try again, the variable deal had disappeared and the price of the fixed deal had declined slightly to £196.  They surely can't advertise an offer and then withdraw it.  That sounds like mis-selling.  And very unfair.  And does this mean that they will automatically transfer me to fixed rate unless i change suppliers?  So annoyed..

    Which company was this?
They can't automatically transfer you to a tariff that's higher than Ofgem's cap, so (in principle) all you need to do is wait.
(There are a very small number of energy cos who are exempt from the Ofgem cap, I think Ecotricity is one.)
EDIT: Sorry, I overlooked that the suplier EDF is named in the thread subject.

  • EDF, thing I'm worried about is the £200 exit fee, however.
  • I take it all back.  I've received an email saying congratulations for signing up to standard variable rate.  Thanks for input, however.
