Where to go to and WHEN do I switch?

Options
Currently with EDF.
Fixed contract ends 31st October.
I'm so confused about WHERE to move to! (Given the current headlines.)
If I move to the cheapest quoted and they go bust... I'm stuck?

+ WHEN should I switch?
Shall I apply to switch now?
Or do I wait 1 week before 31st or something?

+ What do I switch to??
The current prices will be super high - but the new says prices will go down?
So... if I go for a fixed rate... then this rate will be a high rate? But... this will go down in a few months (praying and hoping).
Confused. 🤔

Thanks.

At the moment the cheapest deal is to just let it roll over to the deemed tariff. For future reference, you can change from a fixed deal 40 days before it ends. If you choose a fixed deal it will be a lot more expensive and you will be locked in. It's for you to decide whether you think prices will come down and you will lose out.

Some fixed deals have a 'nil' exit charge, so even though you may be fixed for (say) 24 months, you can jump ship if prices start to fall.
