My fixed energy deal expires Oct 1st: What to do?
Hi,
I am currently with EDF energy under the Welcome GNE Variable v5 RATE (Electricity: 12.19p/kwh, Gas: 6.569p/kWH) which expires Oct 1st. Due to the current crisis I am not finding many fixed energy deals. Should I switch providers, stay on EDF on variable rate or what?
The deals I am finding is likes of Bulb (electricity: 23.30p/kWH, gas: 26.11p/kWH)
I did upgrade my boiler last month to more efficient one, have an old meter should I at least upgrade to a Smart Meter?
Thanks

I believe the best thing to do is to stay with your current provider and do nothing, which means your current provider should move you onto their standard variable tariff."If you aren’t willing to own a stock for ten years, don’t even think about owning it for ten minutes” Warren Buffett

I would recommend sitting back and chilling out for the time being. There are no good fixed price deals out there. Many are more expensive than the standard variable tarriff. The standard variable tarriff is going to be pretty much the same whichever supplier you're with, because it will be at the Ofgem cap.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.1 -
Another vote for you rolling over onto the variable tariff. If you think you might be interested in "smart meter only" tariffs in future, you might want to get EDF to install one well in advance of your next planned switch.N. Isn't the cap going to go up on Friday?Ectophile said:I would recommend sitting back and chilling out for the time being. There are no good fixed price deals out there. Yes but because a switch takes 14 days, the tariffs on the comparison sites already reflect the October cap (and have done for almost a fortnight).pred02 said:

Yes it is, and all the fixed rate tariffs on offer now have already taken that into consideration.pred02 said:

The cap has no effect on the fixed rate tariffs...Ectophile said:
