Should I try and cancel direct debit?

Options
Currently with Igloo Energy which as Im sure you have heard have sadly ceased trading today (a shame as I was always very happy with them)

Anyway this is all new to me, our direct debit is due to leave the bank on Friday. Should I cancel it?
Might be too late but worth a try if its the right thing to be doing

Will be taking a meter reading today

chances are it is too late.

Are you in credit with them?  As in they have a recent meter reading??  if so you could try to cancel it and cancel with your bank as well.  then you have the option if they take to the payment to get it reclaimed.

If you are not in credit then they will need to claim a payment from you to help bring you up to date prior to you switching to a new provider.

fyi - I'm in credit and my old supplier wants me to maintain my DD no matter what.  I've politely told them no.

Hopefully you've been downloading and saving your bills and statements in anticipation

You'd be better off phoning your bank to cancel it. That should take effect immediately.

Igloo will probably have requested the DD payments from their payment processor by now, but if cancelled with your bank now, your bank should reject it when it gets to them on Thursday night/Friday morning.
  • Thanks everyone, I have spoken to my bank this morning who have said the DD is cancelled and no money will be taken (fingers crossed for tomorrow!)

For those with Igloo I was able to log into my account this morning, in case anyone needs to download any bills
  • Me too. I entered yesterday's meter readings.
The total of three bills had previously been saved along with screenshots showing credit balance. Also pictures of meters showing yesterday's numbers.
