Self catering accomodation compensation?

Hi.  I've been offered some compensation for some issues I experienced with the self catering accomodation I booked recently but given the situation, I was expecting more.

I"m just looking for advice and opinions on what people consider to be an appropriate amount of compensation really. Am I being ungrateful if I don't accept the £150 offered?

Here's the story:

I booked a 2 bedroom apartment for 2 weeks via a holiday letting agent and all payments and correspondence has been via the agent.

The 1st floor of the apartment had a bedroom, bathroom with shower and open plan living/kitchen/diner.

The second floor had the master bedroom with ensuite toilet/shower.

On day 1, we discovered the main bathroom shower was broken. The agent called the plumber who confirmed a new part was needed and this would take some time. I agreed with the agent that given there was an second toilet and shower in the ensuite upstairs, we could manage and share this.

On day 12 of the holiday, the staircase from the ensuite master bedroom to the main living area collapsed. Fortunately only causing minor physical injury although much shock.

The agent gave us 2 options. Either finish our holiday early and they would refund us with £250, or stay and they would have a single bed brought over and put up in the living area. A 2 day pass for access to a loca spa was also offered, I assume  so we could shower somewhere. Apparently they were unable to relocate us to other accomodation.

We chose to stay but declined the offer of the spa passes because we did not have any suitable attire with us for using such facilties (bathing costumes?).

Add to this that throughout the holiday duration we were frequently awoken by the sound of rodents in the eaves/walls/ceilings. With the staircase broken and exposed it was quite worrying that rodents were going to get in and this just added to our concerns.

Is £150 compensation a satisfactory amount or should I expect or ask for more?

I thought it was quite a serious health and safety issue but welcome any thoughts or opinions.

Thanks

Did you require hospital treatment for the fall or was it 'superficial' bruising?
Sadly the rodent issue may be dismissed as a 'part of life'
Were you without a shower for 2 days?

You can always ask for more, but there is the risk they withdraw the offer they've already made.

Given that you accepted the choice to stay rather than accept £250 to leave early, it suggests you didn't consider it that serious a health and safety situation.  I'd politely ask for more than the £150 but if you sense any disquiet, accept the £150 before it disappears.

Push for £250 offered previously, take the £150 if that's all that's available.  And then ensure you post suitable reviews on their website(s) and notify the local council of the inadequacies of the build quality.  They would hopefully ensure that the repairs are done to a suitable standard.  They may (depending on location) revoke any rental license that may currently be in place.
