Do I 'need' Sky?

Have has sky for 17 years. (now on Q) I record from it. It holds a lot of recordings and is convenient . Netflix is 'thrown in' somehow, all at £25pm for basic package (no movies/sports). However what I watch is 95% of what's on Freeview (have aerial). How could I bin sky for something cheaper, yet still be able to record all of freeview. Something preferable with a one off purchase rather than monthly cost. Would want to 'hold' quite a few recordings. Confused by options/install/costs. TIA. Am older/non-tech. Have a computer/modem, but 'steaming'..? Brings to mind 'buffering'/wait/pain in the ar&e?? Be kind. Thanks

Sorry I can't think of anything profound, clever or witty to write here.

    Freeview HDD recorder.  See above.

If you want the key Sky content at a fraction of the cost of Sky TV, look at Now (TV).

There is also another plus that the Now contract is monthly with no tie ins, nothing worth watching just cancel & restart when there is, same goes for Netflix
Many on here, including me just switch around waiting for offers or something actually worth paying for
For instance I have just received offer from Now for Sky movies £1 one month only

But they do not cover all channels .
  • There are people who can't bear the thought of going without Sky and think they absolutely need it. I'm not one of them, but I have it for now. This is probably my last Sky contract. I spend more time watching online video such as YouTube than anything on Sky. In fact, my Sky box is switched off from the mains almost the entire week unless there's a game of football I really want to watch (becoming less and less) or some F1 on.

I find recording is handy for whizzing through the adverts or boring bits
