Free money with Abbey??!

It is a friends account who has asked me to post this.

Recently she had some issues with her current account. Trying to claim back her charges. They were successfully claimed back but they blocked the account and nothing could be taken out, even though it was in credit with the charges amount.

After a few stinking letters to Abbey from her she received no reply to this date, but the account and card started working.

This is where it gets weird.

Online bank balance £300 (not correct balance)

Spent £30 buying online but goods damaged sent back for refund.

Online balance after refund £330.

No money was taken out for the product but they actually refunded her and sent out new goods.

She has spent money on the account on the card in various locations, both on line and in shops, yet the balance still remains at £330 online. This has been going on since about September time.

The only time she sees a reduction is when cash is withdrawn via atm.

Debit card is due to expire at the end of year but no new card received.

What should she do?

Phone up Abbey and ask for new card?

Spend spend spend ?

Please suggest...

I think she might find that this is a problem with Abbey's old systems and new.
They have had a lot of problems with it.
I would urge her not to spend what she has not got as it will catch up with her eventually.

Sounds like she's got 2 accounts linked to the same card, when she's using the card in shops the money's coming off one of the accounts but when she's using the internet/ATM she's accessing the other account. She should check with a branch to find out exactly what's going on though, the money she's spending has to be coming from somewhere, and it's possible she's spending money she doesn't have and building up interest & charges again.
