I have planned a holiday in Fuerteventura, the Canary Islands soon but I'm worried about "air space closure due to volcanic ash cloud" insurance cover. Recently in the news La Palma, Canary Islands had a volcanic eruption. Some Travel insurance companies have told me if I was aware of this before I buy travel insurance that I won't be covered!!!. Is this because of being nearby?, Europe, the world even?. I am confused about the definition of this as the volcano is not in Fuerteventura but miles away in the Atlantic ocean.
So I need a cover & where can I get it in 2021 ?? can you help

The people from just La Palma for now are asking tourists not to come at the moment.
You will not get coverage for a risk you are aware of with reasonable certainty at a reasonable price.
Winds are generally to the East over the Atlantic and there is precedent from the Icelandic eruption about 10 years ago. The current winds could have volcanic ash over Fuerteventura before the end of the day.

It’s usually an add on for standard policies. You’d need to check the exact wording for each policy to see what they will and won’t cover. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.2
