Hi
my employer told me they will not cover or help me to claim relief for the equipment to work from home
i have bought a chair, table and screen, and i would like to know what can i do here. I have heard about p87 but don’t know if I can request it or it is just for self employees?
Has anybody who is an employee requested this?
thanks

Such expenses are normally regarded as putting you in a position to do your work, rather than actually doing it, so do not qualify for a deduction.

My company gave me one off £100 payment plus £26 pm to accommodate WFH although I've always worked from home. None of this covers the costs I incur however I'm not going to complain.
Is WFH permanent or temporary? I think with the savings they save should support you. If not seek a different employer (not always easy)0 -

The challenge, then, for an employee is why didn't the employer provide the items?
If the employer did not provide the items, then how would you fare on the "w,e&n" test?
Consider each item separately.
If you purchased the screen just to use with the work laptop, and don't use with your own PC, that may qualify. Then the challenge could be, did you enquire before incurring the expense whether the company could lend a screen from the office?
For the chair and table, was this totally off your own back, or was the purchase initiated from a work-initiated DSE assessment? This could be a grey area as, even though you are working from home, the employer remains responsible for your health & safety. There could be some claims around this but, equally, in the grand scheme of things maybe employees (collectively) will take the "hit" rather than create waves. This rather depends on the work you do and ease of finding another job. I'd imagine, for example, an HGV Tanker driver could demand a full gaming machine set-up right now and probably get it. An airline cabin steward probably less likely.
Have you claimed the tax allowance for WFH? I know it is small, but it is something.
Have you made any savings in commuting that help to off-set the expense?0 -
When working from hime, your employer is still required to comply with Health and Safety.
He should be providing anything that is required for this.
Does it state in your contract that you work from home or is it a choice.0 -
Thanks. The employer provided a chair but it was not good enough, so I bought one better on my own, and the employer will not cover that cost, which makes sense in a way
I’m solely using it to work, but I get your points, although I use it only to work, this is an improvement over the existing equipment I had0
