  • £240, and counting.

Reduced my household insurance by £120 by getting quotes via https://www.moneysupermarket.com, and

In the process of replacing our level term life assurance joint policy with two separate policies, each for the same cover and term but with a lower total premium - saving £10/month with effectively double the cover!

Not a bad start for a (currently) 2-star Money Saver, me thinks!

    Thanks Martin
  • I calculate that I have saved £23642.15.  ;D

See how I did it at http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=saved;action=display;num=1048949191

Martin has (quite literally) saved me a fortune !!!   :o

    (updated post see further down!!)
    Mortgage Feb 2001 - £129,000
    Mortgage July 2007 - £0
Original Mortgage Termination Date - Nov 2018
    Mortgage Interest saved - £63790.60
    ISA Profit since Jan 1st 2015 - 98.2% (updated 1 Dec 2020)
  • By the way,

If you have Microsoft Excel and want to work out how much you can save on your mortgage, then here goes. If the New Workbook task pane isn't in view, on the File menu, click New, and then click General Templates on the New Workbook task pane. Double-click the Loan Amortization template on the Spreadsheet Solutions tab. Enter values in the Loan Calculator, and view the Loan Summary and a list of payments.

Key in the 6 parameters (i.e. how much you pay now) and write down the total interest figure. Now try reducing the Loan Period in Years figure by 1, then 2, then 3 etc. The cost per month only increases by a few quid and yet you are knocking years off your mortgage and saving loads in interest too !!! Work out the cost savings by simply subtracting the interest displayed from the one you wrote down earlier.

Try it - you'll be amazed. I certainly was !!!.

So far I saved on Car Insurance, Telephone, Electricity and Gas as`well as swithching Credit Cards to interest free.

At a rough guess (exact calculations will be available when bills are received) I reckon to have saved some £400 plus.

I am halfway through the 'Diet Book' and reckon with the tips picked up will easily increase my savings

Will report with more savings shortly.

    Thank you Martin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought your book a few days ago, The 1st saving was made after reading your introduction and convincing the shop keeper that it was in the spirirt of the book to let me have a discount. I was charged £5.99 a 25% discount. The first in my money saving career, Thank you.
