Nothing in those posts suggest you can’t have more than one account. I’m not sure how ‘transferring ’ business money into an account would flag up unless it was an obvious business transaction. (I.e if I moved money from my business account elsewhere into my NatWest account how do they know it’s not a refund or something?)
Odds are I suppose there’s more to the story0 -
Thanks for your comments. Yes I applied for another full function account but wasn't accepted. I opened Starling about two years ago and my credit rating has taken a hit since then. NatWest has sent out a letter on 23rd so just have to wait until that comes through the door... hopefully. I did make a purchase on HM using Klarna then cancelled it as my delivery address was incorrect (moved home end of April). Then completed the order again using Klarna with the correct address. That was on 22nd. I also remember not being able to use my NW card on Google Pay late afternoon that day. So I'm thinking maybe it's something to do with the Klarna situation.
Nothing else really going on with this story, just a 40 year old woman who's trying to be better with money but never really gets there.0 -
You may have to just put this one down to experience. Natwest are notorious about blocking accounts. You might want to formally complain to them, and then take your complaint to the FOS if Natwest's response isn't satisfactory. You'll have to have a lot of patience for this. You'll be getting back any money you have in the account regardless of whether you complain or not but again, this will take some time and you will almost certainly have to got to a Branch with ID to get the money back.
If you want a second current account, try elsewhere. Don't be concerned about a low credit rating - it's just a number that no bank will actually look at. What counts is if your credit file has defaults, and you might not get a standard account if the bank sees any recent ones. There are banks who do not make credit checks at all, Starling being one of them. I would recommend you could try these, in the order mentioned:- Chase UK. There's a thread about them on this forum. Nice 1% cashback on many (not all) purchases with the debit card for a year. A bit slow to open as you need to join a waitlist. Note: no Direct Debits at present
- Tesco Clubcard Pay+. This is essentially a pre-paid VISA debit card but you can also use it for Faster Payments, and it gives you Tesco Clubcard points, even for purchases in shops other than Tesco
- Monzo. They are a bit like Starling but otherwise have no 'exciting' features IMO
All other banks are likely to perform credit checks when you apply for your first account with them. In theory, all will offer you a basic account if they conclude you don't qualify for their standard accounts but if they can see, on your credit file, that you have one or more current accounts elsewhere, they might not offer you a basic account.
