Main reasons cars get scrapped these days? Not engine wear anymore (or was it ever)?

Turbo failure is a common reason for cars reaching end of life. Which can be related to their oil supply.0

Having recently scrapped my old trusty nail, the main reason was wanting a new car that would make my job easier but other factors made the scrapping decision easier too. It failed the MOT on rotted sills. £125-£150 would have put that right but no point as car became less suitable for my needs. Also car being a Cat D I was probably a bit ambitious believing I 'could' have drawn £500 by fixing and selling.
The engine ran great because it had regular oil service in the 5 years I had it and I'm sure some of those engine parts will live on in other cars but the gearbox had become 'ticky' (first motion sensor bearing or something like that from what I was told) and the price I got for scrapping made it a no brainer, so I think to answer the question there are a multitude of reasons to scrap a car and with all the expensive environmental 'protection' parts and fancy electrics cars now have, there are probably more cars scrapped these days than there were 20-30 years ago, not including the obvious fact there are more cars around than there were 20-30 years ago.0
