EDF Exit Fee

Signed up for new EDF Tariff last week, Fix Total Service Sep24v2. The early exit fee advertised was £35 per fuel and that was also stated on Martins website.
Just had confirmation for sign up and the T+Cs now say £100 per fuel. How underhand is that?

That's odd, according to EDF's website there's a £35 exit fee on that tariff.
What does that website say for your postcode area?

Well that's even odder. This is what I get:

Yeah same here, £200 exit fee for duel fuel, wow!!! 😮
  • Yes, the website did say £35 when I signed up, but then when I got the confirmation and read the T+Cs (sad as I am)
it said the exit cost was £100 per fuel. Have complained and waiting for a reply.
  • Had a reply and it seems if you're an ex Green Energy customer then the exit fee is £35 per fuel, but new customers it's £100 per fuel !!
I've got it on an email from EDF so if I do exit early £35 is all they're getting.
  • £100 per fuel, good lord! That's obscene!

I got a quote from EDF only 5 days ago (got an email so could check it!) and on that the exit fee is listed as only £15! Just did another quote to check and yes, it's now £100. So in less than a week they've put their exit fees up by £85 per fuel, as well as increasing the unit price (since my quote 5 days ago) too?!

Sounds like they're protecting themselves if prices go back down. They don't want people to sign up for a nice long fixed tariff in a time of high prices, prices go down and then all the customers switch away in droves. Seems incredibly underhanded to me, though!

What was in the Welcome Letter?
  • I don't know, I didn't go with them as British Gas Evolve was much cheaper. I just have the emails with the quotes from when I was comparing.
