Car under warranty for w/screen washer
My Son has a Ford which is on a Pcp deal, about 2yrs in. Anyway he has reported to the dealer(Arnold Clark) that the w/screen washer is intermittently working (currently not) and would like it repaired, they are insiting it's Fords problem, now they're playing pass the buck with each other. Another problem which has raised its head is the car is due Mot on October 14th, I have told him to write to Ford that the car will be going in for its Mot on the 13th and it will fail due to this fault (obviously other items could also cause a fail), if the single cause of the fail is the w/screen washer he would expect Ford to at least supply a courtesy car for the duration until it is passed at no extra cost to himself. Do you guys think this is a reasonable request given that they (whoever takes responsibilty) have at least 2 weeks to rectify?

I assume he's already tried disconnecting and reconnecting the plug for the washer motor...0

I presume from the mention of MOT that this is not a 2yo car, but was bought used two years ago - and the manufacturer warranty has expired?
Is it under any used-car warranty still? Does that cover the screen washers?
If not, then it's his problem to resolve it at his cost.1 -
Thanks, I will have him look into the replies you guys have given.

If it's still under Ford Warranty, which it will be at three years old, take it to a Ford garage.
If the AC dealer isn't a Ford one, they're correct in saying it's a Ford problem.
Any Ford garage will fix a warranty issue.
Assuming it is a warranty issue like the motor not working properly, and not something easy like the filter that dangles in the water bottle being blocked.
BMWs are bad for this and getting to the bottle is a pain (inner wings have to come off).
BMW do an approved sacreenwash that avoid the gumming up, but of course everyone ignores it.2 -
Do not expect that Warranty repairs get a replacement car while it is being fixed either.
Many have it in their T/C that no car is supplied. It is down to the dealer doing the work.Life in the slow lane1 -
It might just be the filter is blocked?
In which case get a hosepipe in there and give it a good clean out.0 -

You don't say how old this car is, or what warranty you're trying to claim on.
>> I have told him to write to Ford
If you think it's covered by the Ford warranty, just get it to a Ford dealer and get it fixed?
>> Do you guys think this is a reasonable request

When my wife purchased her Fiesta, the Ford Direct warranty was 2 years unlimited mileage - actually more of a warranty than a brand new Ford.
If that warranty is in place, then this is certainly worth enquiring under the warranty.
If the AC that supplied the car was not a Ford franchise dealer, then the Ford Direct warranty won't have applied. It is down to whatever warranty the supplying dealer provided, or the car may still be under the Ford new car warranty (typically 3 years, 60k miles) depending on how old the car is.1
