Options
If you are a wood worker then using digital calipers is the best practice for setting the distance between each post. Obviously, you want a good durable instrument that can be dropped and thrown around a little without breaking the bank.

Digital calipers are far more accurate than is needed for woodwork, especially fencing. If you want 150mm between fence posts cut a piece of wood to 150mm and use that as a measure. You can drop and throw it around a lot without breaking anything. If you want to use digital calipers for the larger, easy to read display I'd buy cheap ones and avoid dropping them.0

Mitutoyo are generally regarded as one of the best in the engineering field. Way too expensive for woodworking, and the accuracy really isn't needed. A cheap off-brand will be just as good - Just pick one that feels nice to use.For fencing (unless you are talking about guide fences on table/band saws), a 5m steel tape is more than accurate enough. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0
