Hi
My son is moving into a property, rented, and wanted to change it to his existing supplier. The supplier at the new place has blocked the switch. I suspect money still owing. What can he do please? Thanks for any help.

When he moved in, did he read the meter, contact the supplier, set up an account in his name basedon the reading? If so, and money owed by a previous account holder is nonof his concern and should not cause a problem.0

When you say he is moving in, has he actually moved in?
He cannot choose his own supplier right away. He has to sign up with the existing supplier before he can initiate a switch.0 -

He cannot choose his own supplier right away. He has to sign up with the existing supplier before he can initiate a switch."is moving into a property" suggests the present, or immediate/near future."wanted to change it" suggests the past."to his existing supplier" is even more confusing.....

Yeah I'm a bit confused. Maybe there's a gap between taking over the tenancy and physically moving in.canaldumidi said:MaryNB said:When you say he is moving in, has he actually moved in?

Hi Thanks for the replies. He moves in on Monday, but already has the keys. So his reading will stand in case of any issues with previous tenant. Thanks again.0

As other's say - he should tread the meter on Monday (and maybe take a photo of the meter), and contact the company that currently supplies electricity to that address, to set up an account.
If that company offers a deal that he likes, he can probably switch to that deal immediately. (But if he thinks he might switch suppliers, watch out for any early termination fees.)
He can then start the switching process, if he wants.
You mention his "existing supplier" - I guess that's in a different property. So he needs to take final meter reading (and photo) when he moves out, and inform the supplier.0
