Setting up LPA for relative with Parkinson's

My Brother in law has been struggling with Parkinson's for the last few years and now wishes to set up an LPA, unfortunately his mobility is not good nor is his speech, you really have to concentrate and listen hard.
Is it possible to arrange for a solicitor to visit him to set up these LPA's, he lives in Honiton.
Or what would you advise?
Thanks.

You don't need a solicitor to set up a LPA. I dod mine by reading the website and following the instructions.

Agree with YBR. Actually when the paperwork arrives (I got health and finance) it seems daunting. The application is in book form and appears quite scary, especially when you haven't done it before. But it's quite simple really, a lot doesn't need any filling in at all. Just take your time, make sure everything is signed where necessary and send it off. They apparently telephone for payment at which stage you can pay by card or send a cheque. (I'll be sending a cheque as I have no way of telling if it's a genuine caller) but they are very far behind with registrations due to covid. I think I read something like 22 weeks. Half fee if you have less than £12,000 per annum1

The most important aspect of this question is that the certificate provider has to be able to understand your brother, so that they can be clear that your brother understands the implications of the decision he is making. Your brother doesn't have to speak to communicate his answers, but I appreciate that with Parkinson's he may struggle with other ways of communications. The best certificate provider will be some that can ask the right questions so that your brother can answer easily. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.1

The problem is that he is incapable of doing the paperwork himself, his brain is still Ok but physically unable.0

I found it easier to do online, create an account for yourself and have a bash at doing the forms (just put fictitious info in) - you can save it in draft and delete it afterwards, nothing will happen (as it needs printing and signing and then sending to OPG) but it will give you an idea of what's involved. I've just done it and it is fairly simple to do.

You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time1 -
I did them for my husband and myself online.
Make sure signatures are in the right order as that s a common reason for the it to rejected by OPG
