Best fixed rate deal today?

My mum is with Igloo.
Up until this morning I was in the mind to recommend she does nothing, rides out the probable insolvency, and stay on SoLR variable cap until spring.
Lots of murmurs about the possibility of govt intervention now, possible cap rise again this year, and huge cap rise in the spring.
She's missed the boat for the better fixed deals last week, but are there still fixed deals around that might be worth the punt?
The market is so volatile that I can't easily keep up.

  • No one can answer that without knowing the supply region and annual consumption in kWhs/year. Suppliers have in the main gone into a protected mode of operation and most fixed tariffs are probably higher than they should be.

South West region, but don't know consumption.
Can't we just compare by kWh and standing charge?

If you have got a week or so free. Many suppliers have now pulled out of price comparison websites so you might have to check individual supplier websites.

High standing charges and low kWh prices tend to suit high consumption users, and vice versa. What matters is the total annual cost based on kWhs/year:

I got a 'half decent' 3 year fixed deal from Scottish Power last night.

Was cheaper for me than anyone else's 1 year fix but still £15-20 more than the standard variable tariff I'm already on (for now - how long that remains to be the case is anyone's guess) and about £30 more per month than the 2 year fix I could have got with Eon next/Sainsbury's on Monday (kicking myself for procrastinating).

No exit fees so if the market makes a u-turn it won't cost me to back out, but at least I know where I stand for the next 3 years if it turns out that way.

Yes, I thought it would be a case of comparing one by one, that's why I asked the question, hoping to piggyback off of someone else's effort (bad show I know).
I hadn't thought about region affecting price cap before, until I read yesterday that Devon has the highest unit gas cap in the country at 4.2, so that obviously does make a difference.
I'll have to get my mum's yearly usage and have a play about.
Seen a few posts about people regretting recommending now defunct suppliers to their parents, so I am treading lightly...

Great, I'll go straight to their website to check once my mum has given me her annual consumption.

Don't kick yourself, who knew, right?
  • if you have access to a smartphone then you can download the LIDL app

one of their partner offers is a fixed rate offer from British Gas Evolve - it was still available yesterday

Sainsburys Energy also have fixed rate offers but apparently these have now increased in price

Honestly, the ship has sailed on switching to a reasonably good fixed tariff atm.
Price cap is rising on 1st Oct, however this will be less than any other tariff that she could join.
It will next go up 1st April, so may as well just ride it out for a bit.

Thanks, I saw someone else mention the Lidl offer earlier, but I wasn't sure what they meant.

You can see the price cap charges here and compare against those on any sites. Option to put your consumption in but not required
