Worth paying £2800 to replace TCM (transmission control module) on car that is only worth £2800?

The dreaded conundrum.  Either I scrap the car for £200 (it's a '08 Honda Civic), and pay the same buying a replacement used car of similar price and worry about what unknown problems it might have.  Or I fix my car and hope I don't have any other expensive problems for at least a year.  I figure £2800 is what most non-moneysavers spend in monthly pcp payments a year anyway, so keeping motoring costs just under this is not the end of the world.

Can't you get the TCM repaired by someone like ecutesting dot com for a fraction of the new price?
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

As per above, there are companies will repair these.

Worst case i'd put it on ebay explicitly stating what it needs and marked as "spares or repair".  You'll get far more than £200 for it.

Another vote here for investigate options.

£3k is the Honda main dealer price, right? There are ALWAYS cheaper options than main dealers...
An elderly friend's just been quoted £420 for a replacement window switch for his 2009 Jazz.
There's a used replacement on the way for £24.
  • If you can find the Honda owners site, there is a specialist firm for Honda transmissions recommended there. They come to your car (nationwide) I believe. They get good write-ups.
    Nice to save.
