Technically if nothing was agreed than you should leave behin what the inverntory says. It doesn't have to be the items you bought though, cheap tat from a charity shop in decent nick would do the trick as well.

How much does the landlord want for his stuff? If it's a lot does he seem to be expecting you to pay new price (wich would be unreasonable either way).

How much does the landlord really expect anybody to pay for his 13+ year old furniture or its better replacements? I doubt we are talking valuable antiques. Has he actually given a figure? He needs a good talking to from somebody.
