hi
im thinking about moving and house is on same street as a football stadium. Highbury stadium to be exact.
i haven’t really thought about the consequences and seeking advise what might happen. Place is on ground floor and stadium is in same street with half a block inbetween.
can I expect my car to get vandalised, will I be able to park on match days, will people !!!!!! in my courtyard? Etc
thanks

I’m not a football fan so don’t know who plays at Highbury so no idea what the fans are like but all the things you have highlighted are possibly with parking on match day being the big one!Maybe, just once, someone will call me 'Sir' without adding, 'You're making a scene.'0

I dont live on a street close to a football ground but have been a regular visitor to grounds that are close to houses.
The streets will almost certainly be rammed at various times and I would fear for accidental damage to my car paintwork if it were parked there due to the volume of people walking past.
Parking may be residents permit but you will probably have to be parked already, I wouldn't bank on nipping to the shops and back at 2.30 on a Saturday.
The problem is that its not contained to a few hours either side of 3pm on a saturday afternoon any more. It could be friday evening, Saturday midday, saturday tea time, Sunday evening, Monday evening and if Arsenal get back in to Europe any time soon then several Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings throughout the year.
I often see people sitting in their own front garden/yard etc and seemingly soaking up the atmosphere of the crowds but it just occurred to me that they may simply be making sure nothing happens to their property.
Its entirely up to you of course but as a fan, I always think that I wouldnt like to live in the places I walk past on the way to games!
Hope this helps.0 -
Have lived opposite stamford bridge
Match days our main road was closed to traffic (pedestrian access only). There was a lot of noise with supporters passing by but they were kept moving it was very well policed so not really any issue.
Plenty of discarded litter but was cleaned up after the matches/events.
The emirates stadium is new, getting supporters/event audiences in and out would have been planned to reduce disruption to local residents. One road drayton park is used for coach parking during match days.
If your new property comes with off street parking, your ok. There is always an outside chance of vandalism and anti social behaviour but your living in proper London.
Without stadium events i find that area over populated. So many new flats in tower blocks have been built adjacent to emirates stadium
Why not go there on match day ? have a wonder around and see whats it like before & after a match

I'm not a football fan but have lived a few big roads away from a stadium. I would have to check when match days were so I knew to avoid a lot of roads.
Parking would be impossible, unless it was permit / private parking; tickets were issued on match days.
I'm not aware of deliberate vandalism, but accidental was possible.
Enthusiastic people in large groups would just walk across the road, causing traffic to stop and create tailbacks.
Excitement and hope on the way in, could change to drunken happy songs or drunken anger on the way out and until whatever time the pubs closed and people finally made their way home.
You've not come across as a footie fan and living on the ground floor you'll get the brunt of the noise. It's possibly not the place for you.

Do you mean the Highbury stadium that Fleetwood play in?0

I used to live near a stadium. Area was mostly on street parking, no permits. I'd put weekday matches in my work calendar so I would remember to go home early so I could park the car. Streets were chaos. I heard from locals that years earlier there was a lot of vandalism on match day but wasn't really an issue when I lived there0

I'm a football fan who attends matches. Would I want to live on the same street as my club? No chance. Noise, litter, crowds. It's worse at the end of the game; people arrive over a lot longer period of time before a match than they do when the leave, so the street grinds to a halt with cars and buses having to just stop and wait whilst people fill the street around them. I certainly wouldn't want to leave my car where several thousand people will be pushing past it.

Do you mean Arsenal's ground, The Emirates? I used to live on Gillespie Road, opposite the stadium. Never had an issue with vandalism. Any trash left in the streets was cleaned up so generally pleasant to live there. If I recall, the council increase the time winow that local residents parking spaces require a permit. So you, as a local resident, would get priority over non-local people looking to park for match days. But if you have your own courtyard with parking space then I presume this wouldn't be an issue at all!
The biggest impact to consider is learning when games are on, as the roads around will be closed for hours before and after the game. The tube is also very busy then, as are local pubs. My room used to be on the ground floor too. There's noise from the crowds walking past celebrating, but that's usually limited to half an hour after the game finishes.0
