replace soffits and facias with upvc or paint them again?

Hi John. The answer, I think, is to do neither
At least not using your window cleaner... If the boards are generally solid and free from rot, then they can be painted properly, which should last the best part of 10 years before needing a freshen-up. But I can't see this being done for just £500.(I wouldn't dismiss the guy out of hand, though; if he can demonstrate to you that he knows what he's doing, understands the work involved and the stages of preparation, and also has a good grasp of the best modern products to use (there are some awesome paints out there these days), then he might be worth a chance. But I suspect a 'proper' painter will easily be £1k+ Which I would still personally go for. £7k+ for a few lengths of PVC?! Lawdie! The fascias look to be woodstained rather than painted? Ie, the timber grain pattern shows through? You have the choice of keeping with that, or else going 'solid' paint. If 'paint', what colour would you go for?And are your windows also timber? If so, factor them in too...For any painting quote, they need to fully outline what will be involved. Ie: "Remove all loose paint and check for rot. Make good any damage using..., apply primer/undercoat (Dulux xyz or...), and a minimum of 2 coats of..."It'll also be interesting to see which products the 'pros' will suggest. Try and find at least two painters to give quotes (they must come out to see the job), and check what work they've done recently in your locality. Recommendation is by far the best.0 -
Been getting some quotes for a strip & retile of my roof. Part of the job includes replacing the fascia, soffit, and gutter. Bearing in mind scaffolding would already be in place, I have had one quote for the fascia at £1K, supply only and me doing the work...grumbler said: 225mm plastic fascia board is about £10/m delivered.I don't see how the job can cost even close to £7K even if scaffolding is needed.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

I'm sure you'll have done your homework on prices so for info. I used this company last year for some flat fascia as they didn't have a minimum order quantity - excellent communication and service from them when some of my local companies weren't that interested. turned up on a lorry and all was good. They also trade as Mr Plastics.FreeBear said:
