Energy firm dictatorship

I was with Utility Point and just before they went into administration I searched a fixed deal with Octopus and was all ready to go.  Well then I got an email from EDF saying about Utiity Point going bust and they have my account.  I had already started the ball rolling for a 2 year fixed with Octopus.  it looks like the electricity has gone through but UT have an objection to the gas.
EDF dont really care they just want all the UT customers.  I dont owe UT money and was on dual fuel.
My worry is that once this is all sorted i wont get my fixed deal with Octopus who are trying to sort it.
i want no part of EDF.  it is like dealing with a load of nodding dogs and you get no answer.
Last I checked we could go with who we wanted

I suspect you initiated the switch to Octopus on the 13th. That's not the same as being transferred. That takes about 3 weeks because you have a 14 day cooling-off period.

I think you might find that they don't want the customers but have no choice. It's not exactly profitable for them to take on new customers at lower prices than they can buy at
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
  • its not lower prices it is variable.

It is a variable tariff but it has to be fixed for 6 months under SoLR conditions.
  • this is the email

On 14 September 2021, Utility Point stopped trading so Ofgem (the industry regulator) chose EDF as your new energy supplier. EDF started supplying your energy on 18 September. Your prices will be matched to Standard (Variable) to give you a guaranteed rate through winter, as well as protection from changing wholesale energy prices. These are our cheapest prices^. We're delighted to welcome you on board.

Please make a note of your meter readings if it's safe to do so and keep them in a handy place in case we need them.
