Ofgem failings

There were whistles and  flags everywhere when OFGEM somewhere in the murky past told the public not to stick
with the Big6 but to go for other providers who can give a better deal. Obviously nobody saw the immense increase
in wholesale prices, but isn't strange that OFGEM have given up on supporting the same small companies they were encouraging
people to use in the past.

Ofgem is a non Ministerial Government Department and independent regulator. I am not sure what support that it could offer to small companies unless the Government was prepared to pay. If anything, it should have been more proactive in getting rid of suppliers that were clearly struggling financially prior to the present crisis.

FWiW, I don’t agree with the Government’s present stance on this crisis and, sadly, I do not think that it will be short-lived. In my view, the Government had 2 options: one, was to raise the Cap and/or, two, they could have given suppliers temporary relief from Green levies. The latter doesn’t suit the Government’s net zero agenda. What I think is certain is that the price hike next April will be well into double figure percentages.
