Another PFP Question

Hi all

So I was with the now defunct PFP and being moved to British Gas and would like some advice please.

Having done a comparison and looking to go with Octopus but BG are saying my switch is due on 1/10, I know the consensus us to wait until the BG switch is done before switching again but I am worried I may lose out on the current Octopus tariff the way things are going.

I know my PFP credit is protected & safe, but when I get it back might be another question altogether! If I have to wait this does not really bother me, obviously soner the better but I can live without if it means securing a better tariff now.

So do we think I would be better waiting or am I OK to switch to Octopus now?

Thanks in advance

Sadly, energy switching doesn’t work in the same way as other switching. There are a raft of processes that go on behind the scenes to update databases etc.

By the sounds of it, BG is in the process of taking over your energy supply so a switch is already in progress. If you attempt to switch now, then it is likely that your switch will be blocked because there is already an ongoing change of supplier.  SoLR procedures are designed to ensure that you have continuity of supply; ie, the lights do not go off. They do not take into account switching in the period failure to SoLR takeover - sorry.

Thanks @[Deleted User], I wonder if it worth trying anyway as if they do block it nothing lost but if it goes through all good! What do you think please?

I think, with the current, and likely future, level of transfers that sticking with the SoLR process is probably the wisest course. They aren't going to have time to deal with non-standard queries and they'll go to the back of the queue.

I agree. I appreciate that consumers are desperate to secure a good deal; however, in most cases, the SoLR deemed Ofgem-capped tariff will be the cheapest - at least until the 31st March 2022.

Thanks, that answers most of my questions too as also a PFP survivor.

Its going to be like the 70's again when everyone is with British Gas and the government will probably have to prop that up too so it becomes nationalised in effect. All we need now is some strike action and power cuts and I can get my flairs out again.

    Bye-bye market economy!
