Igloo - potential administration - but mid switch

Just saw Martin's FB post about Igloo. I actually started the switch to Sainsburys on Mon evening so I'm wondering if anyone has any experience on whether that may go through? I did find an article on the Moneysupermarket website that suggests it would, keen to find out if anyone has been through this. I managed to just get on the cheaper Sainsbury's fix tariff before they were pulled and a bit worried it will be prevented and then I'd be stuck with a more expensive SOLR tariff.

I did fortunately pull out and receive most of my Igloo credit yesterday so have a small credit balance. Now wondering whether to cancel the Direct Debit due on the 1st Oct. Not sure what to do for the best.

What a mess for consumers and of course the poor employees.

  • I'm in the same boat, but have about £230 credit in my account. How did you go about getting that back?

My Direct Debit is the 25th.. should I cancel it? Would that likely cause issues with my credit score?

Hi, I just called up although you can contact them via twitter as well. They wanted up to date meter readings to generate a new bill to make sure I was still in credit.

Just because a DD bounced wouldn't automatically effect your credit score. Afterall, you could still be in credit. There is a top up function on their website where you can pay by card. I was thinking of letting them generate a bill and then paying the balance on their website. Only issue is if the website goes down.

The problem is I think a debit balance could effect a switch but not sure if that is the case if Igloo go into administration.
  • A switch in progress will normally go through. The switching process is handled by the gaining supplier. If the transfer of supply has not gone through before the supplier fails then the SoLR may bill you for some days of consumption. It will also handle any credit repayment. You may though have a long wait.

My mum's with igloo, is it best to just wait it out now and see what happens?
No good alternatives at the moment, are there?
  • We switched before they went under, but now they are asking us to pay a 900 quid bill that seems to be due to estimated meter readings through the Spring of 2021. I wonder if I am still meant to pay it - now they are in administration...???

If it is accurate, yes, you will still have to pay it.

  • I also started a Sainsburys switch from Igloo before they went bust. It all went through fine, and of course Eon.Next have now been appointed SOLR.

Has anyone in this situation been contacted by Eon.Next yet? I'm in no big rush, although I do have credit left over with Igloo, but I find it a bit odd that I've not heard anything from Eon.Next yet (other than as Sainsburys, related to my new account rather than the old account with Igloo).

I'm still waiting for Eon.next to set me up with an account. I can't do anything until that happens. They did contact me to supply meter readings but only final ones to Igloo via the Igloo web/app which I did.
It's not quite 2 weeks since they said they'll be in touch soon, around 2 weeks estimated to get customers up and running.
