    Of course, but if the average old people get a letter saying here's choice A or choice B then they'll choose one.  They won't know that choice C even exists if they're not told about it.
    Not everyone is an energy market nerd, most don't know anything about variable tariffs or caps.

    Not just the old either.  Many younger people won't know "C" exists either!!

    We're on a steep (and painful) learning curve at the moment, as a population.

    When I got my first home in 1983 the first quarterly bill said E on it and so I did a bit of searching, and it was then I realised E stood for estimated so I contacted the company BG and gave them the reading from the meter that day which was far lower than their E reading that they expected me to pay, and 6 months later I hadn't even used the E reading amount on the first bill.

    E = ESTIMATED
    C = CUSTUMER

    I learned very quickly to query any estimated readings from energy suppliers if they were substantially higher than the usage.
    Someone please tell me what money is

    Fixed that for you.
    Some older people are as sharp as a tack. And some younger people are planks.

    No offence intended - I was meaning people who are not online, which is very much mainly old people.
    Also sadly older people do tend to be more trusting of what they're advised by big companies, it's a generational thing.  Obviously very much a generalisation, but as the energy companies are playing deceptive games then the older people will be the ones who are most likely to be taken in by it.

    Please excuse me if I'm thick, but does the Octopus flexible charge you exactly what you use per month like the old fashioned system, or does it charge an average estimated over 12 months?

    You can opt to have either billing method, but by default it will be a DD for 1/12th the annual estimated use each month.
