Gas Meter Registration
There is a but of a back story to this
I moved into a new property late Dec 2019 (Persimmon) that was dual fuelled by British Gas, by February I wanted to switch to Avro (MSE cheap energy club). However, I was unable to due to the gas meter at my property being unregistered on the national database. Long story short it took British Gas until July to register the meter after involvement from Ofgem.
Fast forward until now I have stayed with Avro giving actual meter reading gas and electricity, this is where I have noticed Avro still estimate my Gas bill, 21,000 Kwh – the same as a small business – try contacting Avro to no avail, so time to switch giving the amount of units I use each month on average. Now, I have just found I can not switch because my gas meter is still not registered (I have also found several others on my street who are not registered (GDPR HUH?!).
I have tried to contact Avro phone and email; I found the emails from British Gas and Ofgem and copied them into the thread in trying to see what is going on and why I cannot switch all three are extremely busy and none have come back to me.
So, I am left paying for gas that a small sized business would use from an estimated bill – although I give regular meter readings – unable to switch because I do not have a registered gas meter and screaming into the abyss as none of the companies responsible wish to help or are so busy that they cannot.
Have any of you had this experience?
How did you get over it?

On the high side for domestic but where do you get the idea of small businesses from. For business think 50,000 kWh and up - my church hall uses 85,000................. 21,000 Kwh – the same as a small business –''''''''''''So, I am left paying for gas that a small sized business
21,000 @ 4p is under £1,000Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
I googled the UK average use - could have checked the source - but still certainly a high estimate especially as I give the meter reading and I still have an estimated bill. My main gripe though is that I am unable to switch due to the unregistered gas meter.
