Technically, once a supplier/company stops trading the last one out turns off the lights and locks the door. It follows that your attempted switch should be automatically cancelled if your chosen supplier goes bust before the transfer is executed and you would therefore default to PfP’s SoLR. All that said, jumping ship when there is an en bloc transfer going on to a SoLR should also result in a failed transfer as Ofgem has already initiated a switch on your behalf. I can understand why people might want to get ahead of the game but it can add complication and delay.

I kicked myself, when I saw the BG deal. It's quite generous, in the circumstances, but they took so long to publish the rates. Surely they must know the numbers before the SoLR deal is agreed with Ofgem?
  • I’ve left Green but awaiting final bill, I’ve got £840 credit minus about 3 weeks usage, do you think I should ask for a refund before the final bill or just let things ride?

I would badger them to issue a final bill - it could be they are waiting for readings back from your new supplier, or that they are awaiting the validation of the readings before they are able to generate your final bill.  Either way, phone them up, ride out the long queue and get answers.

I am in the same position - I asked for a partial refund the same day I initiated the transfer away but it has not been processed

If you ask I think they will say they cannot do any refunds as you are leaving & you will have to wait for a refund after the final bill

Probably the best thing to do is to chase the final bill refund but they may just delay the refund on purpose now they know they could be entering administration fairly shortly

If they enter administration then the SoLR becomes responsible for the refund but that will takes months to be processed
  • Thanks both above - won't requote to save space.

I've dropped them a line, not hopeful though. Shame because I left the large credit in after depositing £2k to take advantage of the Green Monday 10% deal with the hope that if many others also did it would prop up their cashflow. At this time of year most customers should have a healthy credit on their accounts so if they are on the brink of insolvency it must have been coming for a long time. I guess the Green Monday thing was the first warning of this happening and I was open eyed to the risk at the time.

I'm not desperate for the money, I wouldn't have left it there if I was so I'm happy to wait.

Not sure how it will play out because I won't be appointed a SOLR because I have already left so not sure who would pick up the tab for the credit?
  • Although I've now fully left Green, I asked if they could send back some of my credit.  They did say yes, but it would take 7-10 days to come back to me.  Could be waiting for a while...
