Travel Insurance Experience
I telephoned Avanti, enquiring about offers, because an annual policy I previously taken out (which still had 40 days until expiry) had seen 2 holidays cancelled by airlines due to the covid pandemic. I was told I could have cancelled and got some money back if before mid-term, but they might be able to give a discount on a new policy. So a new quote for a single trip (April 2022) was given, over £450 quoted (includes existing medical conditions)! When I said this was way too much and more than I had paid for the (existing) annual policy, the operative then said there was a cheaper option, ‘essentials’, which had a bigger excess, this quote was over £320! I had their website quote on screen in front of me for this product which was for £230.
I said that was too much, the operative offered to transfer me to a ‘sister’ company (Paying Too Much) for cheaper options….. Another (?) operative came on the line, sounding almost exactly like the previous one but with slightly different intonations and inflections. Offered a quote of £260! I declined. Went onto PTM website, input EXACTLY the same info, had a quote for £177……..

Most insurers are cheaper if you self serve and buy online... not just insurance either, other companies have differential pricing depending on channel0
