Peoples Energy went under, BG won't give my credit back for 2-3 months minimum

I was with People's Energy and I've had my welcome email from British Gas last night. I am currently in £204 worth of credit which I've built up for these winter months for my family but the email from BG states I won't see this reflected on my new account for 2-3 months as a minimum but maybe longer! I could cry. Is there anything I can do? Thanks.
Three years ago, you would not have received a penny of it back as you, and many others, would just have been a secure creditor of a failed company. The secured creditors who would have had first dibs on any money would include HMRC; Ofgem and anybody with a secure charge against the supplier’s assets.

I understand where OP is coming from though, being sensible and topping up ready for big winter payments, so bills don't become unmanageable.
I hope you can try the claim back with your direct debit, will be interesting to see if it works for you.

I have just switched from Bulb to Sainsbury's with £125 credit, and Bulb have changed my direct debit to £0 for October, so I'll be paying off this month's bill with my credit.
That will help as Sainsbury's require a month in advance, so I have £97 to pay them just before I join.
Sometimes you need to juggle things around a bit, we don't all have a lot of expendable money for this sort of thing.
