Which used car would you go see first (4 options in thread)?
I have 8k to spend in a used car (still trying to spend as less as possible).
I found these local deals, which one would you choose and why?
Im replacing my old citroen c1. Main use of car is commuting to work, and the odd trip somewhere. Looking for a cheap drive / maintain. Performance would be a plus, but not my highest priority. I would prefer comfort, and minimise chances of getting expensive issues with it.

On looks alone I like the first one- the Renault Captur in black. Normally I wouldn't go near a French car but I'm sure my reliability prejudices are now a thing of the past and they are decent. I stand to be corrected if I am wrong.....0

If you want to avoid potentailly expensive repairs you avoid turbos and dpfs.
All your choices have turbos, two have dpfs.1 -
What is the detail of that "main use"? How far daily and what type of roads / speed? This will be the main parameter to decide between the two Renaults (petrol) or the other two (diesel).JaVo2004 said:I have 8k to spend in a used car (still trying to spend as less as possible).

Comfort will be higher on the Renault / Nissan.
Performance will be (or will seem) higher on the Mini.0 -
Sorry, you're right. 16 miles each way on a A-road, without a lot of traffic (most times).Grumpy_chap said:

One of those two Renaults then.JaVo2004 said:Sorry, you're right. 16 miles each way on a A-road, without a lot of traffic (most times).1 -
..none of them do particularly well in reliability surveys...?...I would go Japanese and petrol....."It's everybody's fault but mine...."1

The black Renault may look shiny but its cheap for a reason. Short mot, mot history showing lots of front end issues. I suspect it has had a fairly severe front end impact which has been repaired off the books poorly.
The red Nissan has had a rear end impact. Dented tailgate, paint peeling on the bumper.who knows what damage lurks beneath the bumper.

For your mileage ignore diesel - it's not good for them and more to go wrong.
I'd also avoid Mini - you're paying a fashion tax and parts are more expensive (being BMW).
So one of the Capturs or a petrol Qashqai if you can find one.

16 miles each way = 32 miles per day on A roads at a reasonable speed should be OK for a diesel. (Speaking from experience - before lockdown and working from home, your commute echoes almost exactly my commute, and I have a diesel which has only once shown a DPF warning - and that was after the WFH started so my trips became short ones).
I know I'm disagreeing with others above, but I wouldn't rule out a diesel based on your stated intended usage simply because my personal experience says you should be OK.Jenni x0 -
What Japanese car would you recommend.Stubod said:..none of them do particularly well in reliability surveys...?...I would go Japanese and petrol...0
