Fixed vs Variable - Price cap calculator?
Is there a calculator that will show the maximum cost of gas & electric based on the current or new price caps?
If not, how can I get the price cap details for my area?
Basically, I'd like to work out how much my energy bills could reach if I was on a variable tariff and the tariff hits the cap. All of the examples say £139 increase but I know that the usage that is based on will be nothing like our actual usage.
Thanks

Easiest way is to get a quick quote from Eon Next website, look at Flexible variable rates as they price to Cap

This is what I was trying to achive. Based on this, It's currently cheaper to stay on a capped variable rate.

I've looked at the Eon site for the Flex tariff. For my area (SE) the Eon numbers don't seem to stack up against Cap.bristolleedsfan said:

So for gas by DD, Ofgem quote £90.81 standing charge, £554.02 total for 12000kWh. S/C equals £90.81/365 = 24.88p/day
Usage 12000kWh, £554.02 - £90.81 = £463.21 / 12000 = 3.86p per kWh
Eon show 26.12p/day Standing charge plus 4.05p per kWh. Estimated annual cost £581.71
EDIT - just realised why there is a difference. Eon prices include 5% VAT, the numbers from Ofgem don't so this does validate the numbers on the price checker

Yes, which is why many suppliers are not quoting for it on their websites. They would rather frightened consumers picked expensive fixed deals.gavinsbtm said:Gloomendoom said:Try this...

Now validated the numbers against those suggested by @bristolleedsfan above. The discrepancy was due to 5% VAT not being included in the Ofgem numbers.Gloomendoom said:Try this...
