AXA Life changing the terms about free gift !!!

Took out a policy with AXA Life to take advantage of the free gift, a FREE SAT NAV.
Read the details carefully, and asked again and again before signing up and was told that as long as my first premium was paid i would receive my free gift even if i cancelled the policy.
I waited for the premium to be taken and cancelled a few days later. Now AXA are saying the policy needed to be active when the gift was sent out , ie for another month). The policy is now void and they can't do anything.
We'll see after the complaint letter they receive, a manager i spoke to this morning agreed with me that effectively they had 'mis-sold' the policy because of wrong communication.
