Do I need to pay Statement balance or amount due?

On my credit card the statement balance was around 1200 but I had almost all of that amount go back on as I got refunds. So the amount due said £0. I always pay what’s due in full so I’ve never been charged interest and when it says amount due is £0 I never pay it as I assumed this means nothing is due this month and I’ve never been charged interest. But this month it said nothing was due and I’ve been charged interest.

I’m not sure if I’m wrong but I thought I just had to pay the amount due as this is what I’ve been doing for years and never been charged. I’ve attached a screenshot of what it says. Can someone tell me if they were correct in charging me interest?

Unfortunately you cannot tell from the above screenshot, as all it shows is your outstanding balance.

If you carried a balance over from one monthly statement to the next, then yes, I assume interest would be payable.

However only you know what your transactions were, so you`ll have to work that out from your statements.

  • It suggests that not even a minimum payment is due to the refunds. I would message or call Vanquis to confirm if unsure.

This is what I thought. I called and the lady said I shouldn’t go by the amount due, I should go by the statement balance. I’m going to try and call again tomorrow to speak to someone else
