Fixing my tariff

I'm now on a variable - but it's much cheaper than the current fixed rates on offer.

Should I stay on the variable or move to a higher-priced fixed tariff? As I understand it, there's going to be bigger rises passed 1st October, so an expensive fixed now, may not seem so expensive in a few weeks time?

Thanks for your advice

  • If you are on a variable tariff which is increasing on the 1st October, you should have been notified already if the tariff is changing. Personally, I would choose an Ofgem-capped tariff which is ‘fixed’ in all but name until the 31st March 2022. A more worrying question is ‘am I with a supplier that will probably go bust’?

Dolor, folk are making the assumption that the government won't lift the price cap between October and March next year.  If they maintain artificially low prices then many providers will go to the wall as you suggest (unless they get subsidised by the government).

The price cap was really a sop to the lazy for not negotiating the best deal, bet the government are regretting that decision now as we will all suffer.
