Avro Switch

We have been with Avro for a good 8 years now with no issues, at present we are on a fixed 12 month deal Simple super and Prime, paying £75 a month for dual duel, it runs out in Nov, new quote from them jumps it up to £115 a month on a fixed deal. I do understand that prices are going to rise sharply, i have had a quick look and cannot see anything much cheaper, we have never been ones to constantly change suppliers, Avro always came out well on comparisons. What worries me is they are a small company, is it going to be safer to switch to one of the bigger suppliers,ok it may cost a bit more but is it going to be a better bet.

    First of all please be aware you do not pay £75 and burn through all the energy you like, that's just a contribution to a kitty as you are billed on usage out of said kitty based on readings.  Hopefully you're aware of that but if not, you are now :)

    If it happens that Avro was to go bust all that would happen is you'd end up with somebody else (most likely on a different tariff) a few weeks down the line but your credit is protected.

    No company is 100% "safe", even the Big Six.  But as sure as night follows day they are better geared up to cope with spikes, but they're not invincible.
  • I understand the £75 comment, just pointing out that's what we pay monthly for a year, Avro have always been the best price when we use a comparison site, I will leave it till nearer the end of contract, reluctant to switch from Avro, but if we need to I would risk it, never been a big fan of constantly switching providers, the only real thing we ever really change annually is car and home insurance, but only if its a good saving. Thanks for the advice though

    Avro Energy are the 9th largest supplier
  • Thanks for that, I will leave it as it is for now, and wait to see what happens in next few days. Cant say I relish switching, its something we never do that much, been with Avro for a long time now, never find switching easy, especially the broadband  and mobile phone.

    @Bullet500

    Like yourself I’ve been with Avro for several years (always 12-months fixed tariffs)  but Avro appear to have been on an inexorable downhill slide for quite some time now. I really hope they survive the present tsunami,...but I fear it’s a vain hope.

    A switch to an expensive longer term fixed tariff with a larger and (presumably???) more secure company could, in the fullness of time,  prove to be a savvy move;

    ...who knows?...I certainly don’t. 😯

    I am in the same boat and my Avro fixed tariff runs out in a few weeks and the new tariff will be £118 instead of £70
    With energy going up not sure on whether to switch tariffs now or wait a few weeks.
    I too cant find anyone to beat the Avro price for a fixed tariff just yet but don't want to lose two weeks of a cheaper price tariff.
    Spending my time reading how to fix PC's,instead of looking at Facebook.
  • I really am finding it difficult to understand all the caps stuff,looking at comparisons today, the £115 a month on a 12 month fixed deal staying with Avro looks the best bet. My current simple and prime deal ends on Nov.6 2021. I don,t suppose i have anything to lose if i sign up to it.

    I am also fixed with Avro till Nov 3rd but their fixed renewal quote is cheaper than all the quotes I am getting so I have opted for that. However, I forgot to put in the date I want it to start and by default, it starts as of the 23rd. I have tried to amend this and re-apply (you can opt for the date to start which I overlooked) but not certain this has gone though.

    Just had confirmation that it does indeed start on the 4th November. Phew!

    I am too with Avro fixed till Feb next year.....but will Avro still be around, I understand they were due to report in financially in July/Aug and failed to do so...they have a new due date this month.
    So not sure what to do.

    Suppliers are trying to force the Government into raising the Ofgem Cap by offering very high cost fixed deals and, in some cases, banning new customers from signing up to an Ofgem-capped tariff. This might sound perverse but doing nothing may be your best bet in the short term. Should a supplier fail then the Ofgem Cap comes into play as a Deemed Tariff.

    In truth, it boils down to whether you believe BJ that this is a minor problem that will resolve itself very quickly, or analysts who suggest that we are in for the long expensive Winter with a massive increase in the Cap next April.
