Best Bank Customer Service

I’ve been with HSBC for 50 years. They’ve just closed our local branch. The nearest is now 12 miles away. I was in hospital in 2019 having open heart surgery and since then we’ve had the Pandemic. My credit card expired in 2020 and I didn’t get a letter to remind me. I’ve been told I should apply online which - I’ve done. I’ve been refused and told to check my credit score. It’s 999 Excellent with Experian.
ive rung hsbc this morning and after a 25 minute wait was transferred to someone else. I’ve now been waiting  for 50 minutes.
This is shocking customer service.
Any thoughts anyone?
Kind regards
David

Your first stop is to read the sticky on this forum that says "What your Credit score really means" Secondly that magic number of 999 means nothing as you will find out if you do read the sticky.

I'm not sure what you mean by your credit card expired in 2020 as usually a replacement is sent out before your current one expires, unless the account is dormant and you haven't used it for quite a while?

A lot of banks have customer services that are as equally shocking as HSBC, am sure when you do get through to someone they will just say the same as you have already been told.

Lending at the moment is getting tighter due to the current financial uncertainty caused by the pandemic, you may also not currently fit the type of customer HSBC is looking for in their credit card customers.

Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

    Remind you of what?

Unless your credit card had been declared dormant due to lack of use for a long time. As above you automatically receive a new card.

    Life in the slow lane
  • Loyalty means little in terms of retail banking these days unfortunately.

Lots of branches are closing, so I'm unsure that moving for that reason would be much long-term help.

As for credit card, if HSBC won't offer, try someone like Tesco Bank or Barclaycard that offer starter credit cards - apply for their normal product and they may accept you for that or offer a starter product instead.
