Recommendations for carpet cleaner/washer needed

Hi I live in a rural area with a dog and my carpets really need cleaning. It's a small cottage so a compact machine is preferred (though I can find storage if necessary). Looking for something that does stairs and which doesn't leave carpets sopping wet. My carpets are low pile synthetic. Cheers

Unless you're going to be doing it regularly, ie, every other month or so, then you're probably better off just hiring a machine.

I've got a Bissell carpet cleaner and wouldn't be without it.  In fact this is my second in 25 years.  It cleans very well and doesn't leave the carpets too wet. Mine is top of the range but I bought it from their factory seconds outlet( don't know if they still have one) at a great price. They do various models from about £125 upwards.  Obviously more powerful / versatile ones cost more.   I've cleaned my carpets approx every 9 months since they were new and they're still in great shape after 12 years . They were expensive carpets and i think it's worth it to keep them nice.  We have no access to the garden other than through the house so all the kids bikes , pets and garden equipment has to pass over the carpets , which is why they are cleaned regularly.  The Bissell has paid for itself several times over and I find it easier and more efficient than hiring a cleaner. The only time I hired a Rug Doctor it smelled awful , was too heavy for me and didnt work that well

    I have that Vax!
Had it for years and it works a treat. The new ones look better.
They also bought the sand out from deep down. One dog loved to go in the sea then roll in sand.
For dog hairs a small steam cleaner for the stairs. I used a damp sponge across the pile to bring the hairs up. Put the radio on and set too. Didn't take that long.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
