Should I switch now or wait?
Hi all. My Avro Super & Prime 12 months fixed plan is coming to an end in October. With all the increases in energy prices in the news, I decided to have a look at the price comparison sites with a view to switching asap to avoid being hit by huge bills. What came back was frankly quite eye watering. We are a high user, big house with an old gas boiler - we're planning to do something about the boiler but that's fraught with problems and expense due to the design of the house, so that's another story.
Our Gas usage is about 25,000kwh and Electric 5,000kwh per year. Contracts that I could switch to within the price comparison site were quoting upwards of an additional £965 per annum!
I found one that I can switch to outside the site, Sainsbury's 2 year fixed, but that's going to cost me at least another £260 per annum. Given all the horror stories in the news, I'm inclined to think that's probably not too bad. My current supplier won't quote until nearer the end of my current plan.
Just wondered what the energy gurus here thought?

I'm no guru but the consensus seems to be that the Sainsbury's offer is a good one in the current circumstances.

I'd switch now.
your energy usage isn't that bad.
we are Gas 29000kwh & electricity 6500 kwh.
Both our suppliers have gone bust last week & the solr is actually more expensive than what we can get on comparison sites so I feel we are being stitched up. I'd save money now by going to Sainsburys energy dual fuel (I never do dual fuel as too expensive) or even more with Daligas (was with them for years) & Sainsburys for electric. Not sure on if I have to wait for the SOLR to unwind stuff or if I can just switch now. The OFGEM site is not very clear & not working on my favour.0 -
If you've received emails/notifications informing who your SOLR is and the tariff that the SOLR will put you on, you can start the process to switch. I'm with PFP energy and my SOLR is BG. I received the tariff information from BG and have now started the process to switch to Sainsburys, even though BG aren't officially my energy supplier yet until end of this month.chris_mse said:I'd switch now.

You're better off starting the process now and at least getting the lowest available fixed rate before the new increased price cap comes in at the start of October.Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened.
