O/S Daily Monday 20 September 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light, cloud and rain forecast for today.
DH and DS1 up and getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Lunch yesterday was lovely fish, hot new potatoes, salad etc - was delicious. Tonight will be a use up of things from the fridge.
Back to work this morning, hopefully busy bit steady makes the day pass quicker.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all. Thanks for starting us off nmlc.Yesterday turned into a beautiful sunny hot day in Darlington. We didn't go to Raby Castle after all. Firstly because we'd had to book beforehand but mainly because it would have cost £13.00 per adult for admission. That seemed far too much, I know that these places had a tough time during lockdown but that just seemed excessive - maybe I'm too much of a skinflint. 😂 Luckily my friends agreed. We set off for a Sunday drive in the County Durham / North Yorkshire countryside to find a huge field of sunflowers. What a great sight it was too. The sunflowers were not very tall, only about five feet, as they were cultivated for oil and seeds so we could walk through them. That really cheered me.Then some more driving until we reached the end of the road at Helwith where we found a remote tearoom. No signs outside, only a bell attached to a tree to announce arrival. It's run by a couple who have goats and chickens and cater for the walkers who are out on the hills. Fabulous big fresh scones too.The evening was spent just chatting and catching up with each other and our lives.Today I'm driving down to Ripon where I'll be staying one night with my late DM's oldest friend. She and DM knew each other from the mid 60s and were really close since then. It was only when the friend and her husband decided to retire closer to their adult children and they both grew deafer that daily contact became difficult, but emails were the new way for them.I hope that everyone is doing well, happy Monday to all.14

Morning All
Your sunflowers sound amazing Gers, glad you're having a good time.
Washing dried outside yesterday as the sun came out and it was quite warm. More gardening but can't really do any more until the sweet peas and dahlias die off, could be a while at this rate.
Off to work for me, quite a few staff missing due to Covid so will be busy.
Enjoy Monday, take care. XX12 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. GERS you sound to be enjoying your trip around the North of England. I know Ripon well, we went regularly from the caravan when my life was different.
We are back to another glorious sunrise and the sun is to stay all day. Sadly it does show up all Sparkle's snuffle marks on the windows as my intention to clean them remains any empty promise! Maybe this morning!
Yesterday I ended up with company most of the day which was a pleasant surprise. Youngest DGD joined me as DD had to take middle one to Leeds for her Northern Ballet tuition and eldest working at her part time job.
Not much cooking today as there's leftover veg to warm up with the gammon I cooked yesterday. And lunch will be some tasty lentil soup, made from the stock, and a gammon salad bagel.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, poorly loved ones, sad or lonely. Take care one and all and stay safe x

Morning all; think the sun might be peeping through this morning.
Yesterday's rain meant I had to cancel the music session in the park. I contacted everyone I could think of but still worried someone might turn up unknowingly. Luckily I didn't get any messages asking where we were.
Today I still have a bit of sewing to finish plus I've defrosted some mince from the freezer to make a chilli. I made some chocolate biscuits yesterday from my 1970s Cadbury's Chocolate cookery book but they were crumblier than I remember. I might add glace cherries to the next batch as I remember that made them extra yummy.
Quiet day here today I think; look after yourselves.13 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
It rained yesterday before 8 but was dry after that so we were able to take DD1 and family for a boat trip, they all seemed to have a great time and we filled them up snacks and sweets before they went home.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.13 -
Morning everyone just trying to get through to get a doctors appointment it’s constantly engaged but I am in agony I have got blocked tear ducts and I have got an infection in one so I’ve got a lovely black eye and it’s very painful I’ve had it before and it’s horrible I know a doctor won’t see me but I’m hoping he will leave a prescription at the chemists for antibiotics here’s hoping I will continue to try and get through13

My field of sunflowers. Sorry if it's big, I'm on my iPad.

Morning everyone
Gers what a beautiful picture - you were so lucky to see them
I don't start work till lunchtime today but have tiding and hoovering to do. The cats have got my living room window filthy!
A quiet afternoon reading my Sunday Times and a nice chat with DD in Germany. Then DD and little one came for tea - she was very excited as DD had told her they're going on holiday to a caravan. As she's got 2 months to wait I think I would have waited till the week before to tell her!
Well. I'm going to get on - hope everyone has a good day13 -
Hi everyone,
Gers, what a lovely photo, it deserves to be turned into a painting. Enjoy Ripon.
I didn't sleep well, I was dreaming all night. I'm taking some patchwork to be quilted and I was dreaming about that so I'm obviously subconsciously worrying about it. It's different having a professional see them rather than just friends and family. Also, when they are already quilted a multitude of sins are hidden inside the sandwich (as the layers are called).
That's it for the morning - it's an hour's drive, although we'll stop at Marks for salad stuff on the way back. We did do the housework yesterday so the house is looking noticeably better. I also did some machine sewing, as well as the hand sewing I plug away at while watching television.
Hester I'm glad you enjoyed the family visit.
Have a good day.13 -
Morning, hugs if you need one.
So fine, sunny morning, sheets in the washer, so will dry on the line. Will clean the bedroom after I have changed the bed, it will be quite dusty. Shower room will me done tomorrow after we have had our shower.
We are still both ok, we should have been setting off for Yorkshire this morning, hey ho.
Just in case I have ordered 2 weeks worth of suppers from WFF, they will come tomorrow. I have also ordered a mixed pack of meat for later in the week, I need to do a bit of a freezer shuffle in the shed to get it all in. I will split the WFF so I have some in the kitchen freezer and also bring through the meat we will need for this week. I also need to make a loaf. It looks like being a busy morning.
DB will be making hay while the sun shines and be out in the garden, there is a lot to do, planters to empty etc and bulbs to plant.
Supper tonight is smoked haddock, poached egg and bread and butter.9
