Mulching lawnmower

Does anyone have experience with lawnmowers which are good at mulching?

 I'd prefer an electric version.
Lawn is around 120sqm. There is a huge horse chestnut 🌲 and the leaves are a pain to gather.  Fed up of using my Bosch Royal 34R, having to constantly empty it.

The market seems to be full of petrol version. I don't think I can justify cordless ones

  • We use Viking mulchers, but they are petrol.   Mulchers are excellent as you don't have to 'empty' but you will find that you get grass everywhere - particularly when it's wet.

On the person who is mowing?

Not what I meant, but yes it does get all over your shoes - it's like confetti - but I meant that the mulch is fed back into the lawn and if you walk on it (or have animals like I do) the grass mulch sticks like glitter to you and them and is transported everywhere!
  • Ah ok. Does it get better after a few days?

  • At my previous house, I regularly mulched with my Toro petrol lawnmower. There were 21 trees  in that garden, so lots of leaves. Generally, regular 'mowing' through the leaf-dropping season kept the lawn under control, with occasional 'chop-then-collect' if the mulch got too deep.

I moved to another house with just one, large, beach tree and changed to a Bosch cordless. I tried mulching with the Bosch, but got A LOT of thatch in the lawn by the end of summer. I think the new lawn has a finer grass type, and also the electric Bosch did not do as good a job at mulching and returning the bits back into the lawn. Otherwise, a great mower.
