Hi
please help me settle a dispute with my better half before we seriously fall out😳we are travelling to Spain on 26/09 and returning to the UK on 10/10.
I understand some rules to travel would have come into effect on 04/10 - having read a lot of information I am sure that we need to get a test 3 days before returning to the UK and we need to get a two day test after arriving to the UK even after 04/10…..my other half stubbornly insists we don’t need the two day test anymore …. I know that the two day test has to be booked before returning as we need the reference number for the passenger locator form….. if I am wrong ok but I don’t want to find myself in Barcelona airport unable to fly because of it and him being so stubborn😳🤣i am almost thinking of buying two test behind his back please can someone settle this? Thanks

The pre-departure test requirement is waived on 4 October (for England) - it's the intention to do the same for downgrade the post-arrival day 2 tests from PCR to LFT later in the month, but no firm date has been announced for this yet.

Thank you so I am thinking unless told otherwise before we return we need to book the tests? Unlucky if bought and then not needed but highly unlikely

It's just a gamble - if the day 2 rules are still in place when you return then you'll obviously need to have the tests booked in order to fly, so it's just a bit of brinkmanship as to how late you leave it before booking them, or alternatively erring on the side of caution if you want it all sorted before you go, even if that increases the risk you'd buy something you ultimately don't need.

Not sure anyone can determine with any accuracy that it's 'highly unlikely'!

They're not getting rid of the day 2 test, they're replacing it with a lateral flow but that's on an unspecified date later in Oct. So coming back on 10 Oct you'll likely still have to do a PCR test on day 2.

We bought the day 2 tests from Randox recently, but only made the purchase once we'd got abroad. If for any reason you can't fly out you'll find the Day2 tests are non refundable as you get what you need which is the Day2 reference number that's required on the PLF on ordering. You can have them delivered to a family member or neighbour. If you don't have a smartphone and Data or WiFi where you're going, it seems virtually impossible to fly home as you need those to get a UK PLF. Do all the setup before you go though to save messing about trying to create accounts and get verification codes while abroad.
