we can refer it up for any other reason - but unlikely to be approved

Absolutely true, but you can get cashback at 24 hour stores and sign for your cash using your debit card at any branch.

Another solution is to get a banks own savings card which can only be used at ATMs. Keep a small amount of cash in this account that will meet your needs. ALL other cards change to Chip & Signature.

You now have one card and one PIN. You can use ATMs and you don't have to worry about other PINs, remembering them, changing them or being locked out, or held responsible for their misuse!
  • What I do is look at the number and look at my mobile phone. Using the numbers of the pin and the 3/4 letters against the number of the mobile (eg 5 would be JKL) I create a 4 letter word. You nearly always have your phone and can look up the word. It works better in reverse if you can change your pin number. You choose a four letter word and look up the corresponding numbers - so to take Martin's PANT, the numbers on my phone are P=7, A=2,N=6 and T=8 giving a pin of 7268. Some 4 letter words are more easily remembered than others.

CARD users unable to remember different card numbers or who are worried about security, can ask their bank or card issuer for a chip and signature card, so they can continue to sign for purchases.

Apacs says it is not necessary to be disabled or to suffer from an impairment such as short-term memory loss to be entitled to ask for an alternative card. More than 100,000 new chip and signature cards have already been issued.
