Running out of cards

I have 4 cards, 3 of which are cleared; Tesco x2, and HSBC. I have 4.5k remaining on an MBNA card, and need to transfer that over to another card by next month.

I see that MBNA have a decent offer but I cannot BT from my MBNA to another MBNA card, so I might have to look elsewhere.

I'm worried that in maybe 4 years time, I'll have run out of cards that I can sign up for for 0% purchases / BT offers.

Why do you need to be worried?

I suspect you won't as there will always be new entrants and companies making a play and wanting new customers but ultimately you need to work your finances so you aren't reliant on interest free credit which is a bit of an oddity of our times.
  • A lot can happen in 4 years and you've still got plenty of choices available imo. Halifax, Lloyds, Virgin, Santander, Sainsburys and there's probably more, those are just the ones off the top of my head and what I possess apart from any from Lloyds cards.

You really should aim to clear any balance transfer within the 0% deal time frame.
OK last year was a !!!!!! and caused a lot of issues. But also highlighted that 0% deals were hard to come by, as many lenders tightened their belts to risk their exposure to bad debt.

  • Have you closed the Tesco & HSBC cards? If so, in a year or two you'll be eligible for cards from them again should you need one. However the bigger issue here is as others have said - you need to focus on clearing the current debt and then using cards as Martin advises - "paid off, IN FULL, every month" (I'll turn my shouty Martin-voice off now!) it feels a little as though you are looking at a level of CC debt being an ongoing thing - and it really doesn't need to be.

That statement suggests to me you may benefit from debt advice, if this is likely to cause you problems.

Balance transfers are only ever a short term debt solution, if you can`t clear the balances within the interest free period, you may need to look at other ways to repay the debts.

You can either use a money transfer from MBNA to effectively transfer the other balance or transfer it to another card then to MBNA.

Longer term, Sourcrates is right and you may benefit from debt advice to manage your debt.
