contract with current supplier coming to an end on 3rd october. best tarriff was peoples energy. signed up to switch with them, few days later got the email that price was going to rise , so emailed them to cancel the switch as the energy club was now showing a fixed tariff supplier, sainsbury's , and signed up for them. next day was emailed by sainsbury's that they couldn't start the switch, so got back onto peoples energy and they cancelled then and there and sent me an email. told sainsburys this. sainsburys stil haven't been able to switch. have got onto my current supplier today and they say the only info they have of who i was switching to is peoples energy.
my cancellation of contract with peoples energy was before they collapsed. how do i know who i am with. do i just wait and see what happens.
why on earth do they say it takes three weeks to switch, when they tried to do the switch that very day. if i had known i would have left a week inbetween cancelling the one and joining the other. thanks for reading.

  • You cannot flip flop from one supplier to another as there are numerous industry processes that take place behind the scenes. Without having a timeline for your application and cancellation it is impossible to know whether a switch to PfP/BG will go through. Normally if this happens, and the new supplier has accepted your cancellation, your supply will be transferred back to your old supplier.

I suggest that you call your present supplier and ask them to confirm that they are your nominated supplier and that  there is no switch in progress. If there is, you will have to wait for the system to cancel down the switching process. This involves various industry data flows.

Switching is not just a case of snap your fingers and there you are, it's a convoluted process.  It has always taken a few weeks.  You have 14 days cooling off for a start.

The mistake you made here was trying to switch again so soon after the first attempt.  What you should have done is either let it run or contact the new supplier soon as possible, not just send an email and try again, doesn't work like that.

Thank you, I thought this was the case, I was just so worried about not getting a fixed tariff before the price rise, and offers keep changing every day.
