O/S Daily Saturday 18 September 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light, sun and cloud forecast for today.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was disjointed DH had a burger and I had rice cakes with cream cheese and smoked salmon. DS1 had fish and rice. Tonight we may have a bean and sausage meal that I make in the ninja.
I'm working this morning, I tried to give it away but was unable to do so.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all. Thanks for starting us off nmlc. How was your comedy night?
The drive to Glasgow yesterday was trouble-free as I took the Holy Loch route to avoid Loch Lomomd. All paintings handed over successfully and I spent a little time with an ex-colleague of DM. He and his wife recently moved from a big house to flat to 'prepare' for their old age. It's still rather large but the beauty is in the lift!My dental surgeon rang to bring my appointment forward by two hours which was perfect for me. Turns out that the implants aren't going in until 08 October, he just did some jigging and made a couple of moulds and casts.Driving to Darlington was less fun that the dentist was. Firstly four miles of very slow moving traffic early on the M74 into roadworks and then a long wait to get off the M6 at Penrith onto A66. What an awful road that is, long stretches of roadworks over bleak moorland and then another huge queue at Scotch Corner so I went cross country at that point and went through some very pretty villages.Anyway, being here is lovely. Today we're off to Saltburn-by-the-sea to visit an old (very) ex- colleague who isn't doing very well.I hope that everyone is doing well and wish you all a Happy Saturday. 💕10 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. GERS enjoy your few days away.
Another glorious sunrise topping the hill but, even though temps of 21 deg are forecast, I don't think we are getting wall to wall sunshine.
I am off down town on the early bus but it's not for any shopping, I have my flu jab booked at B**TS. After all the jabs this year we will soon be feeling like pin cushions. I'll have a wander round afterwards but don't need anything in particular so won't be out long. Who knows what delights this afternoon will bring!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, poorly loved ones, MIA and those just plain fed up. Take care one and all and be safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"11 -
Hi everyone,
I had to get up because my itchy bites wouldn't let me get back to sleep, I'm just hoping we haven't got fleas back after having Ziggy and Tibs to stay.
We had a lovely day with Esben, he was at his most entertaining although he did get upset because we were in the garden looking at the planes flying over to City airport and they weren't appearing fast enough for his liking. It's noticeable that the amount of air traffic has increased dramatically in the last week or so.
Today will have to be a housework day, with being ill and then spending time over the children's concerns we've only done the bare minimum to keep the house ticking over. I'd like to do a bit of sewing as well to get back in the swing of that. I've got an appointment on Monday to see a woman about quilting the patchwork top I've got so I need to check they are pressed for that.
Gers, enjoy your break. Csarina, I'm sorry you had to cancel your holiday, fingers crossed you don't catch the virus.
Have a good day.11 -
Morning All
It's stopped raining, hoping for a dry day although it's not looking too promising. I have washing to do but that may end up inside. Good day for a loch swim, it may wake me up!
Good luck with the flu jab TA, I always feel a bit 'off' after. We're being given ours at school this year along with the children, don't think it's until November though.
DD has tested positive for the dreaded virus, she lost her sense of taste and smell yesterday. It's the 3rd test she's had this week, it was just a matter of time. We were taking the little one to a farm park tomorrow which I wasn't looking forward to - always a silver lining!
I'm going to collect a computer today for our new families, a charity bought two and we've had a collection to buy a third so all the children have one. There are some very kind people out there.
Have a great trip away Gers, you deserve some time for you. Glad you have the confirmation now.
Hope your workplace can find you something suitable Ruby.
Have a good weekend, enjoy the day if you can. Take care. XX9 -
Good morning, it looks like another fine day is on its way here. You didn't have a very good journey yesterday Gers, you'll be ok now you're there though. Saltburn is lovely, haven't been there for years. Enjoy catching up with your friends.izzy Bee, I meant to say yesterday, I was interested to read that you'd gone to the Timothy Hackforth school at Shildon, and your dad had worked on the railway - Shildon is a fascinating place with lots of railway history. We used to take one of of other grandsons there, it was always a popular day out for us.We went to Beamish yesterday afternoon , had a nice walk round, it was a beautiful day. Beamish is not far for us, just 10 - 15minutes in the car, so we can go when we feel like it. They're building some 50's style houses there, that'll make for an interesting visit when they're finished.Today we are going to an 120th birthday party - a friend is 80 and her granddaughter is 40, so they're having a joint party. her daughter is doing it all, and it will be lovely. It's from 1pm onwards so we'll go in the late afternoon. We seem to have had a social time over the last fortnight, what with nephews visiting and getting out and about. It makes up for the doom and gloom of the last 18 months.I need to do a little bit of shopping this morning. The dreaded ironing is done, for now anyway.Csarina, glad your CV tests were negative, isolating will be a bit of a pain though.Hope the black dog is keeping away Nanny - thinking of you and othere who aren't feeling too good.Take care folks.12

Good morning all; bit misty out there this morning. Might even be a heat haze!
I was still feeling rather down yesterday, after an email exchange with someone the previous day, where I felt I was being accused of something when all I had done was ask a simple question. I'm still wary of opening up my emails, in case there is more of the same, but I need them to send me some information within the next few days.
Apart from that we met up with DD and DGS for coffee at a local garden centre and she's already asking about Chr***** presents! Doesn't help that we have quite a few family birthdays coming up either. I did buy some of the small daffodil bulbs yesterday and have already planted them in two tubs. I've not done that before so have just watered them and put them in a shady part of the garden and will see what happens.
GERS: one of our former friends and neighbour grew up in Saltburn and he often spoke to us about climbing Rosebery Topping.
TA: I've never yet had a flu jab so expect I'll have my first one this year. Timing will be everything if it's not to clash with a Covid booster, but I know I won't be offered that until mid November.
I now know at least four people who are double jabbed but have had Covid within the last few weeks; somewhat worrying.
Anyway, I'm popping up into town for a few bits soon. Chicken fajitas planned for tonight so need a few ingredients.
Happy Saturday everyone.11 -
It’s a while since we have been to Beamish scarlet I would love a look around the 1950s houses it’s a great place and about 40 minutes from us when we were kids we went all over the country on the train as we got free travel with my dad working on the railways and there was a lot more little stations as well we got used to listening to the buzzer as they called it it was a loud siren that could be heard all over shildon when we were kids to mark the start and the ending of the shifts at the railway works10

Morning, hugs if you need one.
Yesterday was a manic day after I got the call from my friend to say she had the dreaded virus. It was not us that were affected my neighbour we keep an eye on was also visitied by the lady on Thursday. Big complications!! We were supposed to be going on holiday on Monday, had to cancel. Neighbours son was due to go away after we got back, daughter flying in from Spain to looks after mother whilst we were away!! Eventually we came to a compromise. Although our tests were clear we have to isolate for 10 days. Neighbours son picked up his sister from the airport, she went in the house, he did not, so they will get away. C was going to test her mother last night.
I cancelled next week and also the few days in October and rebooked for us to go away for 5 days to Norfolk in October. I use bookings.com, which allow me to cancel with no charge as long as its done 3 days before you travel. Fingers crossed we make it.
So I ordered a small order from Morrison for next week which should see us through to the end of our quarantine.
Nothing planned for today, its fine and sunny, might put a small wash load in as it will dry on the line. Cleaner cancelled for the next 2 weeks, so I will have to struggle and change the bed on Monday. Will also have to update the menu list.
Cooking a gammon joint will have some with salad tonight.7 -
Morning all
Bright and sunny here I have a small wash on the go which can be hung out. we did more gardening yesterday it all looks neat and tidy now, our brown gardening bin is full to the brim and we have two dumpy bags full as wellthey are not collecting it very often atm due to the hgv shortage so I just hope they take it eventually !
We are planning a bbq tonight as the weather is nice we have a pork fillet to cook and my mum was in Mr T yesterday as they reduced some sea bass so got us a couple of them so we will cook that tonight too, I shall do some padron peppers and aubergine cubed with garlic too.
There are a few diy jobs to be done today so I shall get OH onto them and I shall be the apprentice, there is a cabinet and a clock to go up on the wall so not too much.
Camelot I hope your dd is ok with the dreaded virus xxx
