British Gas lied to me

I had a similar issue and eventually took British Gas (BG) to the Energy Ombudsman (EO). The long and short of it was that I won and they lost.......key finding from the EO was ".....(we) confirmed that as the contract was agreed prior to the migration and that British Gas had promised to match or beat the Robin Hood Energy tariffs that it was not reasonable for it to change the contract…..”
Bottom line after further exchange between myself and the EO and BG I ended up on a No standing Charge Tariff with a lower unit cost, which was 10 months longer than agreed with Robin Hood.
My view is don’t back down. British Gas directly lied to me as well. I had the proof and with that the EO were very scathing and critical of BG in their findings and effectively forced BG to adhere to the Robin Hoods contract with me.
Good luck

Can i ask you how long did the process take from when you contacted the EO?

When I contacted them it took about 12weeks. My issue wasn't as serious though. So hopefully they will look at yours a bit quicker!0

It wouldn't be the first time! 'British' Gas have numerous offices and call centres, some in far flung places like Johannesburg and New Delhi. Each gives a different answer when spoken to, and it's pot luck which one you get.
The written confirmation looks fairly cut and dried, all that can happen is for the ombudsman to do their work. You'll have to sit tight, and don't pay anything.0 -

Can i ask you how long did the process take from when you contacted the EO?Way too long.....4 months with the EO, which was on top of the 3 months when I tried to resolve this with BG directly. That said, this was the first complaint about this issue that the EO dealt with and BG tried every trick in the book to push it away. I understand from other sources that the EO are turning similar cases much quicker now.
