How to remove a section 54 caution from Land Registry?

Hoping someone can help. My ex-husband has asked me to remove a caution that was filed on his property at the time of our divorce. I wasn’t aware of it and am not even sure why it was done but I’m happy to assist him in getting it removed as it all happened 30 years ago.
My question is whether I should write to Land Registry or if he should? From what I’ve read, he needs to apply for it to be removed and then LR will then write to me asking if I consent or object. My ex’s view is that I lodged, so I need to remove it.
I honestly don’t care either way but I want to do the right thing. Does anyone have experience of this who knows?

I honestly don’t know, I don’t remember that it was never mentioned to me by my solicitors at the time. I assume it relates to guaranteeing the financial support agreed for our daughter at the time of the divorce but she’s 31 now so it’s not relevant.0
